Wood-fired Pots
I work with kilns of different shapes and sizes. |
Anagama-fired Pots
My 'anagama' is fired up around 1250c°. Depending on the weather, one firing usually takes 6 - 8 days. Each firing requires very slow continuous heating up and cooling down and a whole firing process may take over 2 weeks from packing to opening the kiln. 'Anagama' pots after this manner are sturdy enough to be left outdoors in frosty winter.

Raku Tea Bowls
'Raku' was invented over 400 years ago in feudal Japan. It was specifically designed to make rustic tea bowls. Tea bowls are fired at around 950c° in my smaller kiln. Firing in a small 'raku' kiln at this low temperature gives delightful softness to the glazes.
